Canterbury currently needs a new 21st century art gallery enabling artists of all skills and disciplines to show work, demonstrate techniques and engage with the local community and
‘pilgrims’ who visit the City. The gallery will offer spaces for student exhibitions within the city.

The site is a small wooded peninsula is roughly triangular where the boundaries are formed by
Pound Lane (which marks the location of the old city wall) on one side and two channels of the River Stour on the other two sides. At the apex of the triangle the river channels converge.

Your proposed Art Gallery will form a gateway into Canterbury. You will adopt the role of both curator and architect.
